“Beach Sunrise”

Beach Sunrise, oil on canvas, 36″x48″

Nothing like a beautiful sunrise to remind us what a gift each new day is. Finally finished this painting whose creation started at the beginning of the pandemic last year. Pretty interesting to look back at the all the stages of this painting from month to month–some of which seem very dark–perhaps a sign of the times. As the painting evolved and carried me into 2021, it finally took on the calm simplicity of an early morning on the beach that I had intended it too. This one will be heading to Island Art Gallery later this week!

“Southern Marsh”

Happy to see “Southern Marsh” make its way to a new home after working several months on it. It’s not too often you sell a painting before the paint has a chance to fully dry, but this one did. I am so thankful to the sweet couple that bought it, they gave me a much need boost to keep painting during these challenging times!

Life with the Girls..

Oh my goodness–what a birthday present! Four little chicks–honestly wasn’t to sure about it—yikes—what to do with them?! Of course it wasn’t long before I had named them all—and made them a posh little Hen House in the backyard. They truly are loads of fun—and a great subject matter for painting!!! The kitten showed up a few months later in the chicken coop and has been around ever since, certain they are his mothers. Meet “Roo” the cat (short for Rooster) and the Spice Girls.

A Parallel Narrative Show

This is a first for my sister Carol and I —we are doing an exhibit of our paintings and have collaborated on a narrative piece as well. Opening Thursday night, September 12th, at the Bliss Gallery in Belmont NC, the show will hang for a month. Below are some images from our incredible time creating a joint piece with Holy Angel artists Chris and Amy. Also are some images that were the catalyst and process for the “Parallel Narrative” mixed media piece Carol and I did together using our fathers old Rand McNally maps!

Artfields 2018 Plein Air Paint Day

Happy to have participated with Artfields this past Saturday as a plein air artist!   I set up in the beautiful pathway to The Inn at the Crossroads in Lake City, SC.  The first painting, Pathway to the Inn, 9×12, oil on canvas, was snatched up and will have a home in Myrtle Beach, SC.  The second painting is up for auction in the Artfields office!  You can go place a bid for it this week while you check out all the amazing art during the Artfields event.

Palmetto at the Inn, oil on canvas, 10×20, available through silent auction–inquire at the Artfields Welcome Center.

My Palette on Paper

July 28th, 2016, watercolor

This painting evolved after an unsuccessful day of painting in the studio—-just couldn’t find my inspiration that random day in July–specifically Thursday the 28th.  After pondering the state of affairs of my workspace, I stood on my stool and took a picture.  Excited about the colors on my palette I proceeded to paint the palette on my paper first, then I actually put the paint on my drawn palette and completed the rest of the painting using it! Many changes to my workspace kept introducing new subject matter and distractions to my actual painting—half full coffee mug, tangerine peal left from a mid-morning snack and my growing to-do list.  The painting now serves as a memoir of what was going on that day–a tumultuous election year and many obligations that day, according to my to-do list, making it very hard to focus on completing a painting in preparation for an upcoming show.   It did get completed and make its way to the Georgetown County Watercolor Show where it recieved Honorable Mention!
